Custom sheet (42 x 30cm) watercolour painting on Arches 300gsm rough press paper, 2018
all things grow, all things grow
My fascination with water, liquid flow and submersion is often represented within my artwork. I believe my obsessive romance with the watercolour medium is at its best when celebrated in my themed ‘Water’ collection.
I have explored the temperament of the liquid releasing the pigment by replicating moments when we are in relationship with rain, the ocean, rivers, lakes, baths and puddles. Interestingly, painting these imagers offer me the same ebb and flow, the liminality and the tranquil perspective that comes with the realities of this element.
This painting was deceptively difficult to build and took weeks of layers. Every day, I added another layer of watercolour, so that when it dried, all that was left was the pigment. Layer after layer until the coiling water rips and tides into a funnel. I have always loved and appreciated this painting. I hope you do too.
